Greetings! From Los Angeles is a multi-media collaboration that combines visual art and music.  The installation captures moments in Los Angeles using allusions to picture postcard correspondence in the first half of the twentieth century.  Postcards from Los Angeles, the sound component of the installation, is an album of recorded music lasting about 40 mins.  The music consists almost entirely of original recordings and plundered samples.  Inspired by artists/composers like The Books, Adem, dntel, DJ/Rupture, and Brian Eno,Postcards from Los Angeles was written as a long-distance collaboration (largely through electronic-post: e-mail) between vocalist Mallory Glaser and composer/producer Jordan Nelson. The texts used for all the tracks of Postcards from Los Angeles are taken from postcards originating in Los Angeles, CA between c. 1900 and 1950.  Additionally, many of the samples in the music come from field recordings made on hikes, in parks, and with friends by Mallory Glaser, Kira Shewfelt, and Jordan Nelson during the Summer of 2010.
